Martyn Pick's credits include the 2009 film The Age of Stupid as animation director; London 2012, the promotional film for the 2012 Olympics; and the celebrated BBC promotional trailers for the Euro 2004 soccer tournament; and the Budweiser 2001 NBA commercials. Martyn is recognised for his distinctive fusion of live-action and animation, and the fluid, painterly style of his film-making. Ultramarines: The Movie is Pick's first feature film as Director. It is a 76-minute CGI, sci-fi, thriller, set in Games Workshop's fictional Warhammer 40,000 universe The screenplay is by Black Library author Dan Abnett. The film stars Terence Stamp, Sean Pertwee and John Hurt. By applying the old master painterly feel of Game Workshops artwork to the cgi universe it is a very appropriate use of Martyn Pick's dark textural approach to mixed media. It demanded a cinematic painterly look to the film to set it apart from the general cgi movie. He is developing other longform projects that push this intense visual storytelling approach and develop his painterly style.
